RE: Rounded head gasket bolt; any suggestions?
Mike,
Gotta get ,myself a bolt extractor.
When checking for warped heads will a metal meter stick non-flexible (sided to side) do or should I let the shop check it for me?
On engine shop quoted me about $500. for a valve job not including parts.
Thanks,
Ed

You need to use a real straight edge, usually 1/4" metal, 1X2 and 24"s long. You use a feeler guage all along the length and width of the head and if you start to exceed .003 you are boarding on warped. Alot of mechanics have a straight edge, might want to see if you can borrow one.
As for the estimate if you needed valve guides and seals, I can't help you there, might want to call around for estimates.

don't mess around with sears bolt remover... go with snap on it's worth the extra money
I tried craftsman from sears, and they just wore away, tried irwin from home depot and they just broke when hammering onto the bolt
bit the bullet, went to the snapon truck and got the quality tool that worked great
and normally i'm one saying for most craftsman is the brand to go as it is a good balance of quality and price with the lifetime guarentee.
