I would guess, the mechanic doesn't have a clue what is wrong, and I bet he never checked all 8 holes.
If the compression is gone, that would normally indicate a broken timing chain. I doubt this has anything to do with a possible oil pump failure.

So you're telling that there's a chance the motor isn't toast and I may be be able to get off slightly cheap? I've got a guy that's going to do a leak down test on it once I get it towed from the dealer and hopefully that'll narrow things down a little more. If it was a timing chain, would that damage the valves on this motor?

That's your best bet.
Have a mech you know check it out.
I've seen a fair share of castastophic motor failures, either it scares the crap out of you or it locks up, but if it cranks over there's compression on at least one cyl.
I don't think they checked it out at all.
$180 should have gotten you more info.
