Rover Won't Start??
2001 Discovery SE 70,000 miles. I pulled up to my driveway to back in, put in reverse and it shuts off and will not start back up. After tightening one of the battery cables it starts up and I pull it into the driveway (driveway sits uphill) Leave the house again get about 3 miles away comming up to a stop sign doing about 10 miles an hour and it shuts off again, just have to coast and nothing works steering, brakes, etc. Check engine light comes on. Had it towed, local guy thinks it could be fuel pump but hasn't had time to look at it yet? Any helpful suggestions or guesses and guidance would be appreciated!! Thanks for the help!
Get the codes read.
This sounds like a bad Crank Position Sensor to me...search for it and look at the "How to" section of this forum. This is something you can replace yourself.https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...000-dii-25610/
If you dig around here, on D-web, and on YouTube, there is even a video showing how to do replace it. This was put out by Lucky8 LLC (Justin is a.k.a.- "fivespddisco" on here and other forums).

No its not cranking but sounds pretty strong. My guy checked it out says fuel pump-- $700 at the dealer-- what store do most people on this forum use to purchase their replacement or aftermarket parts?? In addition the code says misfiring in cylinder #7. Somewhat of a newbie so thanks for the help!
So you say it's not cranking, but it sounds strong. You also say it won't turn over. (which is the same a cranking).
If it won't crank or turn over, it's not the fuel pump or crank sensor. Are you getting power to the starter?

I would say crank position sensor is the most likely. You just blew $700 on a fuel pump you did not need.
You need to be clear on what is and what is not happening.
When you turn the key does the starter motor turn?
