Rubber Plug?
Sounds about right. I paid wholesale for mine, so they might have been $10 each, and had to wait a few days. Yeah, thinking back to my ordeal, I remember getting one fully seated, for a few seconds, before it popped back out.
If you do buy new ones, mark my words, you won't believe how easily they go in.

I got the specs on the grommet, the diameter of the hole in the sump is 1 1/2" and the grommet should be 1 5/8" - mine is a hair under 2", clearly there is a problem. I phoned a few places and these seem to be special order items, most just don't keep them. Someone said to look at Napa, so off I go.
Had such a laugh reading a few of htese posts as i too spent most of a Sunday afternoon trying to get one in!
When i go the new ones, i also said that they were too small. they fit ERR 7229.
See the pic of before and after. I'll change, the other one later - don't think they're strong enough in their deformed state.
Cheers

Just out of curiosity, my M37 has a screw in plug for the flywheel but it is used only for fording. You are supposed to take it out so fluids don't build up and water doesn't collect in the bottom of the housing. Is this plug supposed to be in there 24/7? Just seems odd. I don't think mine ever had one, but it could of been lost day one.
