Rusting Above Windshield.
I'm looking at purchasing a 2000 LR discovery, and the dealer pointed out that above the top of the windshield there is some rust spots and paint bubbling beginning. He told me that he thought it may be rocks coming up and hitting those particular spots and starting the corrosion. Just wondering if that sounds right or not? or if this is just a common thing.
Also, there are 2 other problems with it. The door locks when used with the remote unlocker sometimes do not all unlock, the dealer said he'd try and fix it but couldn't promise anything. Is this a common problem? And also, there is a shimmy in the steering wheel when travelling around or above 60km/h. Dealer also said he'd get the wheels balanced and aligned, but could it be more than just that fix?
Also, this is not a certified LR used vehicle, but it does have FULL and complete service done, and every stamp/signature has been done at all the correct mileage intervals, so I don't imagine anything too bad could be wrong with the truck.

I bought my 2000 about 6 months ago, so here's my $.02.
Regarding the rust, it could be rock chips, or possibly uncleaned bug guts. I haven't seen anything of the sort on mine, but you may want to check Car Fax or some such to see if the vehicle has even been wrecked and repainted poorly.
Mine had a wicked shimmy at higher speeds (usually kicked in around 75-80 mph). I rotated and balanced the tires, and it's gone. Shouldn't be an issue.
I have had a single occurrence of a lock that wouldn't unlock. I did the manual unlock from inside (switch on dash), and I haven't had a problem with it since then. I don't know how common it is, or how difficult it is to get fixed if it goes all the time, though . . .
Hope this helps.
