Can't get a straight answer on this from search (or the manufacturing company).

I am looking to get a Safety Devices rack (the standard one for trucks with roof rails); however, the company says "will allow limited use of sunroofs". I emailed them to ask what that means and haven't gotten a reply unfortunately.

However, I've seen in ads and people selling new and old SD racks claim they let you open sunroofs fully. So what's the verdict. Anyone with firsthand knowledge? What is the limited use / or can they open fully w/ the +roof rails version? Thanks

 

There is also 2 versions, a lowlander version where you would have to remove your roof rails and could not use your sunroofs, but also a highlander version which will fit over your rails and still enable sunroof usage, and its identical in shape it just sits a little higher. I have the sd rack I’m pretty sure and I can use both roofs

 

My SD allows full operation of both sunroofs and I have roof rails. The lowlands rack that the previous poster mentioned is so extremely rare I wouldn’t worry about buying one by mistake. If someone is letting go of a lowlander it will go for a premium.

Are you buying a new Safety Devices rack or have you found one used?

I am looking at a used one and at the new ones on Rovers North. Have a buddy who might sell his but he has a non sunroof 04 so he can't help me with the sunroof question. I've eyeballed it though and it looks like sunroofs would more than clear it underneath BTW (which confirms what you guys say)
