Default SAI pump

Hi,
My SAI pump runs for about 90 seconds on first start which I think is normal. Sounds like a hair drier running.
Today after a short ride when I parked and was idling the SAI pump was intermitantly running while parked and at idle. What could cause this, I dont think it should operate after the first start?

Thanks

Check to see if the hoses are loose. I think that happened to me on an old '04 I had. You can probably use a zip tie to secure them better.

it looks like all of the connections are on tight. What triggers the pump to start?

Found this thread -- https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...driving-93997/

Perhaps others have better technical knowledge of this but anecdotally, I have had a # of Disco 2's and several of them that do the same thing-- a 2003 we bought new in 2002, and a 2004 that was a CPO car that replaced the 2003. Both of them -- 4.6 motors -- in colder weather in Nashville (not that cold) would turn the vacuum sound on when moving around the driveway, or in traffic, etc. Pretty sure I took one to the dealer about it back in the warranty period and they said "normal". (not that that means anything... ). Those cars have long since been sold.

However, also, my current 2000's SAI comes on occasionally in the winter here in Oregon, when I'm sitting at a stoplight idling. But it's rare. Last year we were up at a cabin, and I noticed it came on / off lots that weekend, where it was 10 degrees and snowing. Anyway, otherwise it seems to be when I'm a mile or two from the house on a cold morning at a stop light. So maybe it's not "properly hot" yet.

All that to say, I think it's somewhat normal.

What turns it on and off is the Bosch engine ECM. The system as designed is to "control emissions during cold starting" so it does seem odd / you ask a good question.

Thanks for the input. It does not happen all the time. I have noticed it happen now a few times and it made me question if a problem was around the corner. I don’t have any codes at this point so I’ll listen to see if it happens more often.

happens to one of my '04s on occasion.

the other never does it.

i just chalk it up to the quirks of British engineering.
