Any tricks removing it? Any special tools?

 

You can try wedging a crows foot wrench and/or flare nut wrench behind the tube so that it holds the threads place while you turn the larger nut with an adjustable wrench. If you don't, you will twist the tube (like I did) and spend $145 on a new tube. It's a pain in the *** to get off. Spray penetrating oil liberally. I ended up taking off the exhaust manifold first... it was much easier after that.

 

Which tune? The runner towards the rear of the engine? Are you planning to attempt to remove it with the Upper manifold in-place?

Its Much much easier with it removed. If you decide to not pull the Upper it's a game of finagling and finessing the tube around over under obstacles. It will come out.


or the nipples attached to the Heads?

 

18mm crows foot wrench and 27mm combo wrench. Spray the connections with a petrol based lubricant and you should be good to go.

 

if your talking about the tube that's between block and fire wall: it should come out without removing the upper intake. not easy but possible. i recently did my valve cover gaskets, put everything back together and realized i forgot to put the tube back. i was able to get back in place with everything else already assembled, so i imagine it will come out as well.

if your talking about the tubes that come out of the side of the heads on each side, i was able to remove the studs from the upper intake, and replace with screws and avoided removing these to change valve cover gaskets. So i'm not much help there. sorry, good luck.

 

I also recommend replacing the studs that mount the air tubes to the upper manifold with regular bolts. It makes removing the upper intake much easier

 

Thank you all. We got it all out. Got no crow wrench, we just soaked it with PB blaster except one where the other tube went out together with the larger nut, so we just tighten it back and blast more PB and came off easily. tks
