I have looked all over my 03 Disco SE and I cannot find anything that looks like an airbag suspension. Could it be that it never came with one? I keep hearing about the infamous airbag issues so I wonder if it maybe was taken out by a previous owner. I have coil springs on all 4 corners and standard shocks.

If I am swapping out springs and shocks to a 1-2" kit how difficult is the swap? I have access to an acetylene torch and moderate set of tools.

I am prepared to have hell with the bottom of the shocks because the brakes were so rusted I can only imagine snapping off one of the shock mounting bolts.

Those that have attempted it; is it overall too bad to do?

Skip the airbag question. I just rechecked the rave manual and I am not sure how I missed it. I infact do not have SLS. Sweet!

SLS was an option and not all discos came with it.

Doing the shocks and springs are easy, you don't need a torch, just get a good floor jack and jack stands and use the bottle jack to jack down the axle to get the new springs in. Lucky 8 has a how to video on youtube. None of the bolts are too hard to get off.

 

Unless they were 7-seaters; it was supposed to be standard on the SE7's. (Was there an SD7?)

Not sure DM. I wanted to go with brands I recognize. I am not familar with old man emu but they seem to be everywhere on the forums.

What one you suggest that would be comfortable? Maybe a mixed kit of bilstine and other springs?

 

Thank you Oysterhead. Gave me an idea of what I would be getting into. I have all of those tools including an air powered impact wrench. I do not however have a lift. I would hate to blow 500-600 more on labor. I need to find a place that rents lift bays like I had when I was in the Navy. On base we could rent a lift bay for $10 an hour. Even had tools there you signed out.

 

You don't need a lift or an impact wrench (though they are nice to haves). Like I said above you need a good floor jack, 2 jack stands and the bottle jack plus tools.

 

Just for the record, I just installed a 2 inch OME lift on our DII. The parts are high quality and they are available from several sources. Expect 3 to 4 hours install time, and if your paranoid like me 15 minutes a day for the next week checking all the bolts.
