Question Sealant for freeze plugs?

What sealant should I use for the freeze plugs. Specifically the one behind the cam. Would RTV work, or will I need something special? What is the best way of installing the freeze plugs? A large socket and hammer?

You don't use any sealant. Clean the bore and smooth any damage - LIGHTLY. Just knock down any marks. If they've been treated right there should be little to no damage to the bore. You can use a socket that just fits inside the plug, but since banging on your sockets is not the ideal treatment for them, you can also grab the plug(s) you have to install and go to your local HW store and get an end cap that fits into the plug and about a 6" nipple of galvanized pipe. Screw the cap on the nipple and you now have a freeze plug driver. Either way, do not bang on the flange of the plug. That WILL cause it to leak.

These are meant to be a temporary road side fix, not a permanent installation.
