Seeking Guidance on Routing Wire to the reverse wire located on the bumper
Hi,
I'm currently in the process of installing an Auto-vox reverse camera kit in my 2003 Land Rover Discovery 2. The kit consists of a rear-mounted camera that comes with two wires:
A black power cable, which is long enough to reach the front.
A short red wire that needs to be spliced into the reverse light wire in the rear.
I've already removed the headliner and all the rear trim, exposing all the wiring harnesses in the cargo area. Now, I'm trying to figure out the best way to route the short red wire from its current location in the cargo area (by the hinge of the cargo door) to the bumper where the reverse light is located (outside).
Any guidance on how I can efficiently route this red wire would be greatly appreciated.
you want to tap the reverse trigger into this green w/brown wire behind driver foot kick panel . it's shown in the wiring guide too (control+f "reverse light"). It comes from the transmission reverse switch and suppies15amps.You can also use this for the reverse camera power (check draw) or use it to trigger a relay to run extra back up lights..etc...
just make sure you have the correct wire!! This wire also runs to the reverse lights, ACE, and BCU.
You seem to have asked the same question three times in three different threads. You can fish the wires all the way to the rear of the vehicle if you want, if you decide to do that I would probably probably suggest doing so under the headliner as you could then do the needed sunroof preventative maintenance actions while the headliner was out. However I would instead recommend installing a wireless remote transceiver/receiver kit for backup cameras instead.

Thank you XRAD, I did see the different posts where they mention that I could find this cable inside (at the front of the car) my issue is that the red wire is not long enough to go back to the front since the red wire comes out from the connector near to where the camera will get installed, so my only choice is to figure out how to "drill" or find a hole that fish through this wire to the ouside (behind bumper) and splice the wire there.

Hi Extinct, yes, I have asked this same thing in different posts that touched this similar topic. Correct, i am able to run the wire from the front to the back (that connects to the camera) but at that connector (near to the camera) is where the red wire that is supposed to connect to the reverse light originates, and it is not long enough to reach back to the front of the cabin where I would find the wires that everyone has been mentioning in different posts...
And yes, the headliner was originally removed to fix a couple of leaks and i'm taking the opportunity to run wires for a reverse camera...
Ok, so you likely had a video cable with a red wire pigtail sticking out of each end. So that red wire runs the length of the cable internal of the black insulation and it is there to signal your head unit that reverse is activated. Wire that red pigtail along with the red wire for the camera in to the reverse lights at the rear of the vehicle. At the head unit wire the red pigtail to your reversing signal wire on the head unit. Test it all before re-assembling.

Thank you Extinct for your response, unfortunately the red wire pigntail is only on the end where the camera is to be installed and has only a couple of feet of wire. I think i will just grab some spare automotive wire cable and solder it to it and run it (to the red wire) and run it back to the driver foot kick panel of the Disco and splice it to the green w/brown wire at that point. Was just looking for an easier solution that perhaps could give me access to the rear bumper.
