Self inflicted radio issue

Self inflicted radio issue
I have an 04 Disco. The radio is stock and has the Land Nav system.
Well, Apparently the procedure to remove the radio is different from the other D2s. The slits on my radio are near the bottom and require a different motion to remove the locking mechanism.
I slid the metal file hanger in, on the left side, too far. The metal became stuck and I noticed some smoke coming from the radio
.
The left side of the radio, in the back, is where the power connection enters the radio.Im guessing I caused an electrical issue with the radio. As it will not turn on anymore. Everything else elctronic is still working. The red light on the radio still blinks but the radio does not respond to the "ON" button.
I checked the radio fuse and it is not blown.
Is there something else I can check before I have to buy another radio? Is there an after market radio that is a direct fit for this 2004 Disco?
