Self tapping drain plug advice?
Hey guys long time no talk,
My 2002 disco has been running a-ok for a while (knock on wood). Until today. I was going to change the oil using Rotella and a HUGE Purolator filter suggested on the forum and after a lot of cursing and a little help from a breaker bar, I got the drain plug out but it stripped the oil pan. I can tighten it hand tight but it won't torque into place. I gather from the sight as well as other discussion boards that I could buy a self tapping drain plug or I could try copper crush washers with the current plug. Does either one hold more benefit than the other? Also are there any tips y'all might have in making this work right so I can get the old girl back out on the road?

This is what I would use + TIME-SERT® STRIPPED OIL DRAIN PAN REPAIR KITS FOR STRIPPED THREADS + Stripped oil pan threads, leaking oil drain pan stripped, stripped oil pan oil drain pan stripped threads stripped drain pan threads, leaking oil pan threads leaking, leaking oil I don't like the self tapping plugs, I find they can do more damage. The repair kit may seem expensive but not when you factor the cost of a new oil pan (or worse, the plug falls out and you ruin an engine)
