Default Trans Filler and Drain Plug

OK.....don't make fun of me, but what is used to take out the trans filler and drain plug on a Disco2 2002?
And how are the driveshafts lubricated? Thanks in advance.

How many miles on your truck and when was the last tranny filter change done?
As for the drive shafts, they are lubed with a grease gun, and you will probably have to replace the 2 u-joints in the front double cardon housing where it attaches to the t/case if they don't have grease fittings.
You might want to send me your tele number and a good time to call you and I will describe what you need to look for.

The drain and fill plugs are removed/installed with an allen/hex keywrench. I can't recall the exact size but, if you have a decent set of allens, you'll have what you need.

When I replaced mine two front U-jonts at about 90K, I used the ones with a grease fittings, which I have screwed in quite deep. Seems it worked since they did clear the U-joint cage.
Now, I hope they are still in place (the grease fittings that is) [sm=smiley23.gif]

Mike...I have 65k on the Disco. I do have grease fittings. Any particular grease I should use? As for the tranny filter I am unsure as I bought her with 53k and no service history. After reading the posts on trans oil replacement, I am thinking about doing the gradual change....ie drain, fill with 3 quarts, start her up, go through the gears and then fill til the stuff seeps from the fill hole. Then do the same again in a couple of months. Any thoughts?

If you have a grease gun, use whatever is in it, if you have to go buy one, also buy a tube of Mobil 1's gease oe any other synthetic that you can find, they last longer the regular grease.
