Drain Plug Sealing Washer
In nerly 90,000 miles, I have only changed mine one time. When I do my 3000 mile changes, I just take the washer off and put it back on upside down and it reseals fine every time.
Since you are doing your own oil changes, I would suggest a couple of oil filters to use, the 3001 K&N or the Mobil 1 filters, the rest are real junk. Also fill the new oil filter about 2/3 full with oil before installing it.
