Selling Market Inquiry (D1 vs D2)
Hello everyone,
Recently I have acquired a new job that requires me to purchase a work vehicle. I am playing around with selling one of my two discoveries and unfortunately maybe both. I have an 04’ D2 that needs rear suspension work, has a leaky engine oil, low rust and 98k. The D2 has ss bumpers and rock rails. After a few quick fixes she’s ready for the trail.
I also have a 99’ D1 that has a brand new suspension bolts bushings to everything. New stub axles, new bearings, brakes. It has 96k miles. The details for both are so important.
which one would you guys rather keep? The D1 or the D2.
What do you think I could get for either of them currently?
also I want to keep them. I love them both. I may have too. However, and maybe don’t bag me here fellas…. I really like the defenders (traditional make), and I also really like the older 90s range rovers.
really ultimately I will always have one to work on but with the two basically daily driver ready I think I could be sitting on a two nice vehicles for someone to love and maybe make some coin for my efforts.

Sounds like you need to do a decision analysis - google Kepner-Tregoe decision analysis, great tool for helping you make decisions.
I am sure others will chime in, but the answer will depend on what you want to do with it. D2 is more sophisticated, complicated, comfortable, and versatile. D1 is simpler, more trail capable, easier to maintain, and less comfortable on long trips. D2 is worth more than D1, in tip top shape your D2 would be worth mid teens to low 20's. D1 slightly less.
Good luck.

As far as the question goes...both sound pretty comparable. But as mentioned, the Dll will probably net you more dollars. Me, a decision like this, when l like both equally, might come down to something as insignificant as exterior color.

Out of curiosity...have you ever used this to determine if owning a Dll is a good decision? Asking for a friend...lol.
