I have made the decision to purchase a late 90's Discovery for a tow car to tow my boat. I will be having a look at a couple on the weekend and was wondering what I need to look out for. The boat is 3t, but I will only be towing short distances, most of my driving will be highway not towing.

Is 210000km reasonable?

What were the common problems and what are tell tale signs of vehicles to look out for?

And here is a page from owners manual, part of the RAVE manual set, be sure your insurance covers you if towing weight is exceeded.....

And no wading-while-launching like this fellow...

 

I don't think a Discovery makes a good tow vehicle for a 3 ton boat, to heavy and not enough power from that engine.

 

thanks for the ino. I'm in oz and this model is rated to 4t tow here, which is legal and where I tow to is only 60kph and 8km so I it will do the job.

What I was after was more info on what mechanically to look out for, are these things bad for head gaskets etc?
