Default Serpentine Belt keeps breaking

Hello all,

I had an ACE pump go and bypassed with the shorter serpentine belt. About 200 miles later, the serpentine belt goes, no apparent reason. I am suspecting it is time to replace the tensioner on this 2000 Disco II. Thoughts? Thank You!

Make sure it’s all aligned and the pullies on all devices are not cracked or chipped on the edges
I had a chip crack on my tensioner but never thought anything of it. Than I started seing black dust , that was the rubber off the belt
replaced tensioner and all was good

if it’s breaking your probably getting belt dust wear on something

Some of the pulleys can be mounted back to front (e.g. steering pump), so if any of them have ever been removed, they might be out of line with the rest. That will cause the belt to shred very quickly.

Would also ensure that the water pump shaft isn’t “wobbling” due to a bad bearing.

that is what destroyed mine.

And that ac clutch isn't chattering... at this point consider all pulleys suspect until you prove other wise... bearings or alignment wise... also it could have been a bad new belt (least likely but not impossible.... or a bouncing tensioner due to weak spring...

Default Thank you

I am sorry about my slow delay. I appreciate all the feedback on my post. I am waiting for new belt and tensioner to come in before I tackle. I will post again when completed. Thanks!
