Default service engine light on

Good afternoon , being a newbie , Ihate to ask this question, I have 2003with 61,000 miles on it the service engine light just came on ,serial # is not within the oil pumprangeproblem, My question would be, what might be the main causefor this tocome on ? Any help would be greatly appreciated .

Why not go get the fault codes read and get back to us with those 4 digit number, then we can help you.
Go to a local auto parts store where they may still read them for free.
Oh, and start reading your owners manual so you get a better idea what makes your truck tick.

Thanks Mike, I will stopon the wayhome from worktonight and see if they can find out something and Iwill reply. I agreewithyou on reading up, just need to make time, work 10 hours a day plus1 hr drive to work everday , doesnt leave much time , but I WILL TRY

Mike , I just took it to Autozone ,the ran a check and it said emssions . Pretty vague , any ideas ?

was running fine this moring , wonder ifI got some bad gas, I was thinking of getting a can of sea foam and adding to the fuel , cannot hurt

In reading these posts , codes seem to be about vacuum pump.Anything a layman can look at and maybe fix ?

They are lean codes, meaning the computer is seeing more oxygen in the exhaust than its supposed to. Could be a simple vacuum leak, or an exhaust leak prior to the oxygen sensors. Could be the engine not dumping enough fuel into the engine, but unlikely. How mechanically inclined are you?

I can fix alot of things.However Idont have any electronic gear ,do Ineed any? What do Ineed to look for? Loose hose? etc
