Default Service Engine Light

Before I post, let me say "thanks" to those who provided responses to my previous posts. What an incredible resource!

So, my Service Engine Light came on earlier in the week and I just assumed it would turn off soon, but it hasn't. I think this may have happened a couple years ago too, when I hit 80/90k on the odometer. My manual says this should have occured at 60k miles and that I should visit my dealer for routine sodomo...I mean emission service. I just recently had a DEQ test and my vehicle passed no problems, so my question to you all is: is this service necessarry, and if not, how can I turn the light off?

I'd like to avoid a visti to the dealer as my budget is extra tight this month, especially after shelling out nearly $500.00 to have a speed sensor replaced that was damaged when I had a "friend" replace my CV joint because I couldn't afford the shop rate at the time. Maybe friends shouldn't let friends work on Land Rovers unless they have some prior experience. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Take care,

Brent
