Default Service Engine Light on at 42K mi???!!! HELP!!

Wondering if anyone has experienced a "service engine soon" at only 42K miles. Just got the car last week and drove it up from Florida to Michigan in a weekend. Oil was good, all fluids were good. No idea what would cause the light to go on. Please help!!

Run by your local parts house and have them read the codes. They will do it for free. That will tell you where to start.

Write down all the 4 digit fault code numbers and get back to us.

Just got the codes: P0441, P0705, P1668. Also after driving for a while my dashboard is flashing "M" and "S" now.

P0705, relates to the M&S, switch gear position indicator fault (XYZ Switch). It will cause it to go in limp home mode, which feels like reduce power, but it just locks the trans in 3rd gear. If you switch the car off/on it should clear, the M&S flashing. You will have to reset the code with your scanner. My 03 does this everyonce and awhile. If you just slowly shift into Reverse or Drive, and let it engage it should stop it from doing it. You can replace the switch, $199.99 at AB, it sits on the drivers side of the trans. They will get water in them, which will cause this. Not sure on the other codes, someone else will chime in.

Thanks

The 1668 is a Engine anti-theftsignal circuit high, Engine anti-theft signal circuit wrong code, possible reason Serial link open circuit.

So it appears you may have 2 issues.

P1668 Land Rover Anti-Theft Alarm serial link faultDrive cycle A:Signal out of range - above maximum

P0441 is for emissions, incorrect purge flow. Check your gas cap first.

Reset the codes and see if something comes back.

Thank you very much for the help. I checked the gas cap and the O-ring looked fine, no dried or cracked rubber. Maybe I should buy a new gas cap? What else can I do myself?

Replace the gas cap, reset the codes and see what comes back.
Start with the cheapest/easiest fix first, then reset the codes and then tackle the next one.
