'Service Engine Soon' Light
2000 Discovery Series 2 less than 84,000 miles on it. Service Engine Soon light came on 2 days after i bought. Code that came up was P0440. What should i do from here?
The dealership i took it to that i bought it from, checked and tightened everything then reset the light.
Thank You.

If the dealer checked it and cleared the light, there's nothing else to do. Just wait and see if the light comes back on again. That particular code can be one or a combination of multiple things. The code is a general evap.
As stated in the previous post elsewhere in the forum, code P0440 is specific to emisisons, and the page I provided from the same shop manual the dealer uses shows a picture of the part and tells the definition of the code (purge valve not sealing). That would be page 254 of 1529 in the shop manual. This particular one is of a type that may reappear. If it happens once, the system holds it and waits for it to happens again on the next time the truck is driven from a cold start. So if it showed the engine light, it had already happened twice (takes 2 times to turn on the light). So you may see it again by the end of the week. Don't let the dealer off the hook if it happens again.
It came back on this morning when my husband took it to work. Does driving it to cold make that a problem?
We tightened the gas cap already like twice on our own and then the dealership checked it as well.
Guessing I will be making another trip out their so they can check everything right. I will mention to them to check the purge valve.

Most likely not easy to reach. See attached layout. and info sheets. This is the sort of thing you will find in the RAVE set of shop manuals (Rovers Are Very Expensive), and if you plan much DIY you'll want your own copy downloaded.
Could be valve is unplugged. Take pages to small dealer (unless they arer a Rover dealer, then they will have them).

It's not too bad. I used the hyundai part 28910-22040 when I replaced mine. It's up next to the intake on the left side (drive's side in the US).
Thanks I will look and also tell my husband.
A 440 is not a purge valve, which by the way is the easiest part to replace on your truck if it were need. You evap system has a malfunction and the dealer needs to read the codes when the warning light is on and deal with it.
