SES light on, running hot at idle
02 Disc II SE w/ 66000 mi- I just joined the Rover Discovery family and mine already has issues. I changed my oil for the first time, took it on a road trip and the Service Engine Soon light is on now. It also has started running hot if it idles for a few minutes. I can start to drive it again and it cools back down. I will take it to AutoZone to get the codes. I live in the country (rural Mississippi Delta) so Land Rover dealers are not on hand to help me on this one .
I also need a resource to buy a bumper end cap, lock actuator, and as of today, a front blinker light. Any help is appreciated.

find out what the codes are and get back to us with them. for the parts, contact will tillery http://www.roverguy.com/
Sounds like you have a cooling fan or radiator problem, I wouldn't let it go getting too hot too often, will cost you dearly.
So has all the major service work been done on your truck, or do you know?

Thanks mike for your reply! I got a code p0441 which i was told was probably the gas cap or the purge valve. The engine is still running rough, and the temp guage still runs a little above normal when it idles for a minute after starting. Any ideas for my next step? Thanks!
Besides the code listed above, I just remembered something that started just before the SES light came on. The heater was on and it would blow cold air when in idle and then blow warm when I accelerated. Then, the SES light came on. Then, I started having trouble with it wanting to run hot, not in the red, but above normal when I first start it, or if it idles for a short period. I have also heard gurgling under the hood when in idle. My mechanic just told me that he figured it was the gas cap and figured a piece of dirt ended up in the valve or something since it hasn't ran hot since he has had it. From what I have read, I was wondering about the purge valve and hoping against any coolant fan or catylitic converter problems. Again- 02 Disco II w/ 66000 mi. and p0441 code.
So you are low on coollant, possible leak, you have a 441, incorrect purge flow that has nothing to do with either problem.
You might want to stop driving it and call me.

in response to jmt, I live between Winona and Carrolton, MS- right on the edge of the Delta. I am originally from Tupelo, MS and travel through Memphis with work a good bit. Good to see there are some local guys driving roverr and checking out this forum.
I am having trouble with mine as of now, thank God for DiscoMike and others who know more than me. I am going to have to bleed the coolant system and watch the levels. My mechanic seems to think its just in my head.
