re: my doctorate degree

Perhaps you would like some additional technical explanation of the codes 0101 and 0505, which involve MAF, TPS, and IACV. These pages are from the Bosch engine management manual for LR.

P0101 results when calculated motor load does not match results of engine speed and throttle position, when adjusted for adaptation factor, compared to MAF input. Result is immediate check engine light. Can be something as simple as a clogged air filter.

P0505 results from a blocked IACV, making rpm either more than 180 rpm high or 100 rpm low compared to expected. This has to happen 2 or 3 times per second in a single driving cycle.

Hopefully this will guide you in what to clean. Be careful with the MAF, best cleaned when cold.

Default P0101 and P0505 -any follow-up?

I am hoping to get some follow-up from this initial question. I am getting both codes as well. I have cleaned the throttle body with tb cleaner. The MAF is only about 3 months old, thanks to a dealer (didn't fix the issue). I have pulled apart very component from the air box to the intake plenum to verify that there are no leaks. The idle control valve is very clean and moving freely. I tested it with a 9 volt battery and it moved both open and closed. I tested it as well with an ohm meter and it pegged to 0 in all configurations. I have not found any cracked or torn lines anywhere.

The vehicle runs fine, no noticeable issue other then upon periodic cold start-up. The engine will rev up and down for about 20 seconds then settles down to a normal idle. I have cleared the codes before attempting my efforts, but the both come back with-in a few cycles if not the first.

Thanks guys.
