Put you foot on the brakes and have someone check to see if they are working, if they aren't, your faulty brake switch is not allowing you to shift out of park.

The center cap on the shifter pops off and you will see a nut that has backed off just tighten it up, that should fix it.
Disco I's seem to do this at times.

Yes the shifter **** has a cap that comes off and under that is the nut that holds the handle on once loose it will not let the shifter go all the way to park or other gears.

it could be like mine was, when i popped the trim piece off around the shifter, i found a penny lodged inbetween the shifter and the park position. pulled the penny out, solved the problem. but i have a feeling i'll only be that lucky once with that!

try checking the tension on the shift linkage as well.

At this I would have to get a ohm meter to start checking things.
