Shifter got stuck in park twice tonight
Drove the disco several times tonight (kids trick or treating). On 2 of these occasions the shifter wouldnt move out of park. I got it to budge when i used my body weight to rock the vehicle...this seemed to release the shifter on both occasions. the other 4 or so times i was in and out of the truck tonight it shifted freely. It hasnt yet stuck again but i was wondering if this sounds like a problem you are familiar with. On one occasion tonight, i noticed an audible "clunking" sound when i went to move the shifter from P to R. This was on a steep incline? But that too hasnt been replicated on any other occasion tonight.
Also is there a law or principle in rovernomics that says when you fix one problem, another one manifests itself within days? This seems to happen to me all the time of late...thanks for any light you can shed on this....much appreciated.

If it ever gets stuck and it doesn't work after a minute, just pop the shifter cover off and you can manually push the solenoid in and shift. Might want to check the leads to the solenoid, they can loosen up and cause this issue.
thanks for the info...I dont hear a click, but i am not sure i ever have in the 11 months i've had the vehicle. Is it a faint sound and do you need to pop the cover off to hear the sound? I havent had any shifter-getting-stuck issues resurface. I am going to install an 04 CDL next weekend, is there anything worth doing then? should i replace or check anything?
with radio off and windows up, you should have no problem hearing the click. easy to just follow brake pedal arm to see that button operating.

YES, but it is not called rovernomics, it is called Merphy's law, and usually happens at the worst possible time, at the worst possible location. Auto. Insurance companies don't like it at all, when a guy tells them something like "yes, I was hit from the front, but it now has caused my rear differential to be damaged!"
Seriously, though, do as the guys here are trying to tell you. It sound as if you have a non functioning solenoid, so inspect it carefully--you may have to put in a new one.

I have a similar issue getting stuck in park and every time my F21 fuse in the fuse bank under the steering column is blown. I replace it and all is fine. I think it may be my solenoid. Fuse 21 covers Shift/i lock/Alarm/Transfer Box. I am stumped and know if I keep replacing fuses, I will burn up my fuse box.
Thanks for all the input...looks like i got some things to check out...i will be looking at rave tonight....what is the purpose of the solenoid? It sounds like you can remove it as opposed to replacing it?
I had a busy day of running around without the selector getting stuck but when i got home my wife told me i have no brake lights -- it sounds like this is all related.....
