I have an odd shock/spring question, which could also be a warning for DIY'ers...

Ride gets rough and due to finances I first change shocks, Bilsteins. and put off changing the springs. Immediately got a nice firm comfortable ride.

Six months later the ride is rough again and it is clear the springs have given out., to the point of sagging... due to it being the middle of winter I wait until spring to change springs..

OME Medium duty go in, nice 2 inch lift firm ride restored. after 4500 miles ride is still VERY FIRM and even jarring, as the right rear slams hard on the down side of any large speed bump, etc.

My question is did I prematurely hose my new shocks by running them with bad springs for too long?

Should I expect to see the springs soften any over time? even a little? Would it even be possible to ruin new shocks by putting them on with worn out springs?

If I didn't know I had new shocks (1 year old now) judging by the ride I'd say I need new shocks.

Maybe this is just ordinary for a non air suspension Disco with new OME MD springs.

If indeed I ruined my shocks consider this a warning not to put new shocks on first, put springs first or do both at once.

Thoughts?

If you bottomed out your shocks because your springs were too saggy, yes you could have ruined them.

You shouldn't be able to bottom out the shocks unless you have cut or removed your bump stops.

The Disco is stock, other than the new springs. No steel bumpers or heavy accessories. I have not altered the bump stops.

So should new shocks on old springs ride better than the same shocks with new MD springs 9 months later?

The ride is much better than before the springs went in but very firm, I think maybe too firm.

I'm asking because someone must have done this before, I'd kinda like to get some input before spending the money on replacing one year old shocks.

Thanks.

if any of you folks need a set of bilsteins (on the cheap)for all 4 corners of a stock height d2, i have got some. a couple of years ago, I purchased a second d2 and planned to run it stock. put new shocks on and approx. 240-260 miles(never refilled tank) later, the sls begin to fail. so, i decided to go another route (2" ome). the shocks have been sitting since. I thought I might find a use......no dice. so if you are in my neck of the woods, I will be willing to trade for guiness (extra stout, not that new foo foo stuff) I'd like to get 2 cases for them, but if you are truly, on a budget and truly need them....I might be talked down to say......1.5 or maybe even 1

so, If you can trust that they are not used more than a couple hundred miles.. you can't beat the price. that is why I stated "in my neck.....) you could see them before hand. your call, though.

and all of you bfg haters... no comments on my tires......i bought them for me, not you.
sold..never mind someone snagged them up on another thread

That's a really good price! Paid $200 (shipped) for my 4 used (10K mi) Bilsteins. I'd be kicking myself but I am nowhere in your neck of the woods.
