Avoid a sunroof(s) like the plague they leak like a sieve (well known fault and known by LR from new and they have done absolutely zip to fix the problems. Even the LR3 has the same sunroof and the same leaks) after a few years from new and are a real PITA to fix or very expensive if done by a garage. Because they leak, over a period of time they destroy the headliner which then sags down. Anyways, who needs a sunroof, the trucks got A/C and you've got all that fine US weather.

For those who have done this repair they will know what a time consuming PITA it is. For those who believe it's not a big problem just wait until you are caught out in heavy rain all dressed up in your finest with the family on board and the water is pouring down your necks on top of you and there's nothing you can do to stop it. Yep, you can seal the sunroofs up with loads of sealant and tape so there's no point having them in the first place.

Sunroofs- I hear lots of talk about leaking sunroofs. I have only had 1 discovery that had a leaky sunroof, a D1 with a cracked drain pipe. At this moment I have 2-04', 1-03', & 1-96' that have sunroofs and do not leak. So as offroadFrance mentioned, I know there is a problem... But I believe it has been over exaggerated. Before anybody says there is no rain in SoCal, the local car wash emulates a pretty harsh rain storm!

Way too expensive the values have dropped like a brick - 7/8k max. These D2s can be very high maint. Look at LR3 for that price....

I totally agree with the fact that leaking sunroofs can be a way bigger pain than a lot of people think. That being said someone with no skills should not buy this vehicle at all.

x1. All the LR group vehicles lose 40% in the first 3 years in the UK. It never pays to buy any vehicle new there. I bought my main dealership D2 ES7 TD5 LHD export model new as a rereg with 100 miles demo on the clock as they couldn't sell it in the UK ('cos it's a left hooker) and I paid 34% below the new vehicle book price, bargain, and they fitted the factory tow hitch and put in rubber LR mats etc, even got the kilometre binnacle free.

When one bears in mind these trucks are 10-15 years old now there are going to be issues with them, with any vehicle that old there are issues. The V8 in the UK is a no, no, one is economy and the other is road tax notwithstanding they have problems with the V8 as you all know so the TD5 is the way to go in the UK.

As for sunroof leaks, unless they've been fixed by the previous owner it's just a matter of time before the water outside becomes the water inside...................believe me. Leaks appear between 6 to 10 years from new and it's usually the broken plastic tubes on the drain sumps or the seal between the sunroof frame and metal roof shell, or both.
