Default Should I buy this

Hey everyone.... Ive been searching hard for a good landrover... found a couple of good deals, but got beat to them. I want a good project/off road car. Ive done things like swapping a transmission and a transfer case, replacing a fuel pump and some axle shafts.

Would this be a good buy? 2000 Disco, all systems function, has roof rack, lights, brush gaurd. Stuck in "limp mode" 1st gear will not work, starts fine in 2nd gear and drives at high speeds fine, m & S lights are on.
Hes asking 2,500 it has 129K miles on it

Just needs wiring check??? new tranny? what do you guys think... i want to act quick

It could be as simple as a bad alternator or dead battery.

But having experienced the same thing, my money is on a bad WXYZ switch. It can be fixed in 45 minutes for $125 or so if you buy a used part.

With that mileage, though, be ready to replace your head gaskets. Also make sure to do the 60,000 tune up. You can do both for $700 or less if you perform the work yourself.

I have a code reader and have found from reading on here that p0722 indicates a bad switch, so im hoping it will throw that code when i go to buy it. does anyone know what codes would indicate something wrong with the transmission itself?
Much Thanks!! you guys are a GREAT knowledge base!

Serious tranny problems would generally require a special code reader available at, you guessed it, your LR stealership.

General codes, though, can be read with an OBD2 scanner.

Doing a quick search should get you what you need.

The tranny is a Mercedes make, I believe. They are generally pretty solid...probably the most reliable part of truck.

if you can go to NAPA and buy a BLOCK tester ( 50.00) this will let you know if the engine has a leaking headgasket or cracked head.
Then you make an informed decision, and it can save you hundreds of dollars
