I just removed one of my plugs for an inspection because I thinking of getting some new ones and wanted to see if they have ever been changed. The plug I removed is a Champion RC11PYPB4 which I believe is OEM and i'd imagine the original ones from new because I know that the 60K service has not been done by the previous owner. So million dollar question is should I go ahead and put some new plugs in. It seems like alot of you would recommend the Bosch Plat 4s but I'm tempted to try out those new E3 plug ($47 on Amazon for all 8!) Any suggestions, comments .....??

rovers come stock with champion plugs? That surprises me because champion aren't good plugs in my opinion. Im tempted to use those E3s also, saw that deal on amazon.

 

I wouldn`t install chumpions! Never had any luck with them.Today I put in Bosch Fusions and 8mm Magnecor wires. Plugs the previous owner had in were the Bosch Platinums. You should change the wires too!!!

 

I would go with the Plus 4's, Magnecor and the list below.

This is the parts list for a 60,000 mile service or a high mileage used truck, the way I do it.
1 Oil filter, K&N 3001 or Mobil 1- 301
1 Air filter
6 Qts of engine oil
12 Qts of ATF
7 Qts of 80/90W synthetic gear oil, 85W/140 for HD use
3 Pints of synthetic Brake fluid
2 Qts of synthetic Power steering fluid
2 Gallons of OAT, orange coolant, also called Dexcool
1 Bottle of Lucas Power Steering additive
1 Bottle of Lucas Transmission additive
1 Can of Spray Carb. Spray
1 Can Of Brake cleaner
8 Spark Plugs, I use Bosch Platium Plus 4's
1 Set of Magnacor 8mm plug wires
1 Serpentine belt
2 Bottles of SeaFoam gas additive
1 T/Stat
1 bottle of WaterWetter or Purple Ice
Hoses and belts, as necessary

60,000 Mile Service or Major Service for High Mileage Used Vehicle just purchased

Bleed the brakes
Flush and change the power steering fluid adding one bottle of additive
Service the tranny adding one bottle of additive
Change the coolant and t/stat
Do an engine flush before changing the oil
Do an induction cleaning
Clean the throttle body
Add fuel additive to full gas tank
Change both of the diffs fluid
Change the t/case oil
Replace the plugs and wires
Replace the air filter
Lube all the drive shaft grease fitting including the 2 slip shafts
Do full inspection of brakes, hoses, bushings etc.

Hopefully I didn't leave anything out.

 

The wires look new they are Carquest 7mm. Are the Champion plugs the original factory ones?
Thanks for the list Mike, BTW what ATF fluid should i use? I do have a new belt but i'm getting some sqeeking going on which I believe is the belt tensioner. Just ordered one at Autozone, Delco $42.99.

 

Yes replace your plugs, use the E3's and you and I can have a matching set.
If you check your owners manual you will see that Champion are the factory plugs.

 

Dextron 3 is the ATF to use, if you have a high miler, Vavoline makes a high mileage version for trannys over 75,000 mile which is a great way to go.

Don't be surprised if those plug wires don't hold up, Rovers are kind of funny about what they like, Magnacor 8 mm's being the wire of choice.

As for the Champion plugs, the OEM plug is not sold in most auto parts store but at dealers only.
Consider Bosch Platinum Plus 4's at half the price, they hold up well.

 

Disco I's came with Champion's and mine run's just as good with them as it did with the bosch 4's.

I Don't know about the Bosch ele's on the Disco II's but I
would think that with BMW hand in it I would use Bosch's
in them.
