Should I take the Synthetic Plunge?
Hey guys, just a little curious about if it truly is worth the cost of synthetic versus standard motor oil. To start with, I have '96 SE7 with about 130k milesand I had a valve job about 6 months ago. I have heard you are ok using regular oil but its better for higher mileage Discos to use synthetic. I have also heard once you switch to synthetic you can't go back. I want to know if that is true as well if you guys think I should go ahead with the swtich. Thanks

switch with confidence. I have changed everything over. I had a little seepage at frist, but dry as a bone now. You can switch back to conventional later if cost prohibits, no problems. Who ever told you that was mis-informed. Slick 50 had a problem with this. It is because it uses Teflon, and over time it will gum the crap out of your motor..
You can go high end with Royal purple or Amsoil, but do not extend your drains. These trucks run too rich, and you will end up with too much fuel in the oil. Mobile 1 and Castrol Syntec are good oils...
