Default Should I use a radiator flush solution for this major coolant service project?

I have many different projects queued up and trying to acquire all the necessary tools and materials ahead of time.

This vehicle is at 105k and lets assume that no maintenance has been done on the coolant system.

For this project I want to flush the coolant, install new tstat, install new throttle body heater plate, clean throttle body, replace both throttle body heater plate hoses, and refill with Zerex G05, and bleed bleed bleed.

Should I do anything else for this project? The other cooling hoses look to be in good shape, so I opted not to spend the $250+ on the kit.

Here's my list of stuff:
  • throttle body heater plate kit from AB
  • Throttle body gasket
  • Throttle body cleaner can
  • gasket sealer
  • 2 new hoses for the TB from AB
  • Soft spring 180 tstat from AB
  • 2x 1 gal Zerex G05 coolant
  • new expansion tank cap
  • Combination of distilled water and garden hose to flush with
  • tub to catch coolant

Should I use a radiator flush during the coolant flush step? Anything else?

This is what I had in mind:

Amazon.com: Zerex ZXC01 Super Radiator Flush - 22 oz.: Automotive Amazon.com: Zerex ZXC01 Super Radiator Flush - 22 oz.: Automotive

Big mistake not replacing all of the coolant hoses. Upper and lower assemblies utilize plastic unions that degrade over time with heat and the DexCool. The "tees" and "wyes" break off and the threads strip out of the bleeder screw.

That must be from highest priced vendor for genuine LR parts? Look and shop around and do as advised and change your hoses unless records indicate previously complied with.

Good point. Thanks. I will order the rest of the hoses and delay this project a bit longer. There are no previous records for this rover.

AB offers a few of the hoses as genuine or after market (1/2 price). Does it matter?

e.g.

Hose Radiator Top (G): Radiator Hose (Genuine Part # PCH000460): Land Rover Discovery II Radiator Top Hose
Hose Radiator Top: Discovery 2 Radiator Hose - Top Hose

I might sound like a parrot ,but... call Lucky8! Or use their new website. They have a coupon code for forum members if you look in the classifieds section of this forum under Lucky8 specials. They are consistently considerably cheaper than AB.

I have never used a flush solution before although I did run some vinegar though my D1 once. If you do use a solution I would recommend flushing with tap water then a final with distilled.

Good luck.

Just to add to the flushing part. I don't remember who recommended it but, using a shop vac to suck out water is a great idea. When I did it I was just short on replacing the entire capacity for coolant.

The hoses at lucky8 are more expensive than AB. I went with all genuine at AB. I did however get my TW prop shaft from lucky.

Great tip! Which hole should I plug it into? Should all other holes be closed off to create suction?

I think I put the vac over the two that connect to the bottom of the thermostat. My shop Vac hose is bigger than the coolant hose so I kind of filled in the extra space with my fingers. I honestly thought it was a bust until I tried to move the shop vac and it was filled with water
I didn't plug any of the other hoses. Just the thermostat was removed (top and bottom hose)
