If you are considering a new motor due to leaking oil, the Rover may not be for you. What I've learned really quickly on my Rover is that they leak where they shouldn't. The Brits love loose seals I guess, and it seems cheaper to just put in a bit of Rotella (or better yet change the oil) then spend hundreds of dollars and/or labor on swapping out seals which will just leak again.

Mine dribbles. It's good under-carriage corrosion protection (which you will need). After 4,000 miles and 5 months I've moved from "full" on the dip-stick to a little under 3/4. It's a ton more than my US cars, but not overly excessive and reminds me of my old 1979 CJ-7. You have to remember, the Rover V8 is 60's tech to begin with and their factory was notorious for not replacing tooling, which means the tolerances became nearly out-of-spec from the factory by 2003.
See thats the thing I haven't been the daily driver of it so I personally am not sure how much it's leaking a week/2weeks/month. SO, once I take her to the indy tomorrow we'll try and better evaluate the severity of these leaks. I'm fine with a leaky Rover..I know they leak...but my family is a little more "freakishout" when they see oil in the drive way. I'm pretty sure I am not going to fix all these seals. Just the other things. I will check back and let you all know.

So my indy mechanic called with great news today. Turns out it only needs the rear main seal and cross seals. Everything that the shop quoted me was not needed at all. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow to let them know they almost screwed me. Turns out we're keeping the disco!!!

There's a reason they call them stealerships.

Congrats.

I wouldn't bother calling, btw.

However, didn't you say it made a noise when you started it like a bad pulley? That needs to be addressed.

I should have been more specific. He is going to fix a pulley and the tensioner. Other than that everything is good. He's also gonna do spark plugs.
