Unhappy sick v8 disco

I was cumin home the other nite when my v8 cut out on me the battery lead ad come off thats when I noticed she was steamin but the temp gauge was norm my top hoses where hot and bottom cold iv since changed the thermostat and its still the same its had a new water pump about a year ago. I had a similar problem years ago on a different car that was a new thermostat faulty I av already checked if the new thermostat was faulty I took 1 off my td5 an its still the same the top hoses pressureizing. the radiator is cold aswel as the thermostat an bottom hose the temp gauge reads around half way and there is no loss ov power or any water leaks the oil is clear so is the water has any body got any ideas what the problem could be plz>

I would try again new tstat and coolant cap
and proper bleed

flush the whole cooling system. new thermostat. new pressure cap.
never trust the temperature gauge. it's not telling you anything other than the engine is cold or not-cold. by the time it reads in the red you've probably already damaged your engine.

toss the thermostat in a boiling pot of water. Use an IR temp gun to see when it starts to open & then the temp when it's fully open. I bet the thermostat is fine IMHO.
