Default Simple overtemp warning system anyone can do.

I have no problems with my Disco but as a pre warning to potential overheating going undetected, I installed a thermal switch and wired it to the interior alarm dinger. Right now it is attached to one of my radiator hoses, but I may end up attaching somewhere else for better accuracy.

When the temp gets high, it switches and starts the dinger which impules one to look at the gauges. A possible improvement may be to wire to ignition interrupt to kill or partially disable the engine, but that has some safety issues not totally thought through.

Swithces are available anywhere, as little as $10. Wiring is easy.

I like the buzzer but not the intterutting the ignition. Someone else could be driving, it could happen on an off ramp or winding road. I like the idea of saving the engine but not at the cost of the passengers. Where did you find the switch?

I like simple solutions.
I'm working on an Arduino project Arduino - HomePage to read oil pressure and water temp and then buzz of they go out of range. Maybe I will hook up the dinger instead of a buzzer, less parts to work with.

DO NOT DO THIS. Motors can be replaced, but not lives, and it is beyond the effort of what its worth to make some sort of "limp home" mode on one of these motors.

You could install a set of GlowShift Elite 10 Color Gauge Series gauges as I did that will allow you set a visual and audible warning at whatever pressure or tempeture you like. The audible alarm is going to make whoever is driving pull over because it is so annoying.

I wish I'd went with the Elite-10-Color-Gauges...

I looked for other gauge makers that had the same functionality as the Elite 10 but wasn't able to find any that compared.

When I drove truck our newer trucks (computer controlled) had warning buzzers with a 30 sec timer, when a critical fault was detected the warning would go off and then the engine would shut off after 30 seconds.
After you turned the key off you could restart the engine.
There were like 20 gauges, literally and they could be hard to keep track of.
