Peace of mind with a car full of kids certainly out weights looks.

I have been looking into selling our other car (07 Toyota Solara) and getting a Sequoia/Land Cruiser...really want the 5.7L that came out in 08.

How much did you get it for? It amazed me to see how well the Land Cruisers hold there value....and the biggest reason i am leaning toward the Cruiser is they have a stronger following on the forms than the Sequoia....(i.e. more people to help me fix things that break...like the rover...then again nothing would break because its a Toyota...cant argue with that......)
The LC has the 4.7. I think my D2 accelerates a little better than the LC did, but it was fine for such a massive vehicle. As for repairs, your tools will get dusty. You can get aftermarket torsion bars to lift it slightly and then add a TC lowering kit to keep the driveline from vibrating. Between that and an ARB bumper you will certainly seperate yourself from the crowd but with the way they ride stock you might not want to mess with it. Regarding wheeling it (or just in general), they have a weakness in the front diff. A 2000 and later should have a 4 pin diff. as opposed to a 2 pin, but even they seem to break more than they should. The typical break is a shock loading in reverse. Try to avoid that. If you do get a break, stop right away and get it towed or pull the shafts and you can usually get it back together relatively cheaply.

My 5.7 LC has alot more power than the 4.7 - but I never found the 4.7 underpowered (my 97 LC with the 6 cyl was definitly underpowered) . The 5.7 blows the Disco away. I have a hard time saying either the 4.7 LC or the Disco are faster. My gut tells me the LC by a hair - it seems like it is geared a little better off the line.

Off road - the Disco's smaller size and weight is definitly an advantage. The LC is a big heavy machine. That being said - its no slouch. In low range and diffs locked it went very well.

Disco with roof rack, brush bar, lights, etc is definitly better looking than the 100 series land cruiser - no question. I really like the looks of the 90 series LC. The new 200 series LC's are just very plain - but the Rovers are nothing that great to look at either.

The interior of a Land Cruise seems about twice the size of a Diso. A lot better for family trips - etc.

Just my .02.

What year did they offer the 5.7 in the LC? 2008, i thought???

good to know the 4.7 is comparable...i am trying to get something that has a little more grunt for towing without going to a pick-up.

The Toyota seams to have much more power then the 04' Discovery. The driving experience is night and day with the plus going to the Toy.

I had just put new Cooper AT3 on my 03' 3 months ago. So of course I was out in the driveway swapping these onto my 04' as they could care less about the tire condition on a trade in. The 03' had 70,000 miles and they gave me $7145.00 on the trade in which I thought was great since it has that annoying tick that I tried to get ride of in the summer with a full teardown.

I have a Block out of my 04' that is good except for having cyclinders .002" out of round which I later learned was standard after I purchase the turner. What do you think the value of this good hunk of metal would be?
