Default Solutions to squeaky alternator pulley on '97 Disco?

I tried searching the forum and the Rave CD but didn't come up with anything on this...

I've got a '97 Disco SE7 (4.0 V8) with a squeaky alternator pulley and wanted to see if anyone knew whether it was able to be greased, changed, or if I just needed a new alternator. If it can be changed, does anyone have a part number?

Your pulley can not squeak, either you have a loose belt of a bad alternator bearing.
Take the belt off and spin the pulley, do you hear/feel a bad bearing?

You're definitely right, I guess I wasn't thinking properly when I wrote this. It's currently hurricane-type weather right now but I'll do what you mentioned when it stops. If it's the alternator bearing, how obvious will the "rough spot" be when it turns? Also, if it is that bearing is it greasable or is a new alternator in order?
I'll update you when I spin the pulley...

The rough spot you speak of may be obvious or not......if the bearing is REALLY bad you should be able to tell right away.....if it's only a little bad it may not seem too bad to you but will still cause the noise. Bottom line is ....it won't heal itself....If you have local rebuilding shop near you that is usually the best route. A lot of the guys here have had some degree of trouble with the alternators purchased from the major parts stores as far as longevity and reliability....so getting your "land rover" unit rebuilt is more desireable than taking a chance on a Taiwan special.
