Default Some minor issues ('96 Disco)

Ok, I have had this disco for about a year now, got it used (obviously) and its been running great. I do have a few issues that I'd like some advice on.

1) Check Engine comes on from time to time and goes back out on its own. The code is Misfire (cyl 8) and Misfire Excessive Emissions. Some times it goes away for a long time and other times it comes on, then I clear it and it comes right back...is it possible that fuel is the cause? I use 89 oct usually.

2) When the engine is cold (even in hot summer, if it hasn't been running in the last hour...) it can take 3-6 seconds to crank. It always does crank though so I haven't really worried about it too much. It seems to help to make sure the AC is OFF before cranking but maybe thats just in my head. If the engine is 'warm' ie. just after pumping gas, I get an instant start. Once the engine is running it sounds great and there are no bad smells...but you can smell something right after the slow start...it goes away in 10-15 secs though.

3) Sometimes water from the A/C leaks into the passenger side floor. This happens intermiddently, I think the drain is clogged, where do I look for that?

Thanks
Will

1. Sounds like its time for plugs and wires.
Use 91 or better fuel.

2. Maybe normal or you could have a fuel temp sensor going out.
It is on the fuel rail.

3. The drain is in tha transmission tunnel about 4 inches back from the fire wall
on the right side, for the front.

should I replace all the plug wires or just cyl 8? It doesn't look like it should be very difficult...

If one is bad it maybe just a little time to the next one goes out.
I would do them all.

I would replace all of your plugs and wires. You can get a Magnacor set for about what you would spend at a parts store. Get the 8mm..

I keep these pics on my desktop, and people keep asking..... Here is you drain for the a/c. One is under the truck, the other is in the cab, passenger side, looking at the transmission hump. You can see the glove box on the right.

Lastly, always use 91. 89 may be a little cheaper, but the $2 you save per tank will kill you in mileage.

Good Luck!

Wanted to post a quick update. I filled up with some 93 (we don't have 91??) and the check engine light went out after about 30 miles...so thats good. I think i'll still get some new wires, plus those red ones look cool. What about the fuel temp sens? Why would that make it start slow, and how hard is it to change...do you have to drain the tank?

Thanks

Nice that you have 93, it only gets better for a disco as it increases. Where do you live that you have 93?

The fuel temp sensor lets the ECM know to lean the fuel out or run rich and may take longer to start
if its not working like it should, I can't remember if it will set the CEL/ MIL.
The tune up maybe all you need.
