Sorry, off topic thread: guns
I guess as an old-timer, I'll have to be the voice of reason here.
!st I'm a moderate w/liberal bias.
that being said, if I were to carry, it'd be a 4" barrel iver johnson tp22.
Silly, huh?
I could shoot a couple hundred rounds a week (silly cheap ammo), almost no recoil, it's less than an inch thick, uncle ben makes a holster inside the waistband that holds an extra clip.
If I shot remington yellowjacket hollow points (I might have a couple hundred laying around) with a 1,900 fps velocity out of a 4" barrel, they'd probably fragment on impact
@ 15-20ft.
Then for when the teeming masses run into my yard to storm my DI for parts,
I'd greet them with a winchester ranger pump (unplugged) with an alternating mix of #2 shot, then 1oz. rottweil hollows, shot, hollow, etc.
By then, the person complaining to 911 about their food order being screwed up should be finished, I'll call the police.
But I'm just old skool, I guess
Hugs,greg

It does not matter if you do something wrong or not, if they think that you are doing something wrong then they can do what they want.
Australia is not the US.
Hitler scared his people into submission, they were so scared they gave up all of their rights.
If the terrorists are going to attack us again then they will, we wont beable to stop them because we wont know that they are here.
They dont use credit cards or cell phones or e-mail.
There is no one all around correct answer, if you dont like the way your governemt is being run or what they are doing then vote for change.
Now, Rovers ROCK!!

Just for the record I have not purchased any guns or ammo recently. However, I have considered purchasing both...so I guess I'm not one of those "paranoid retards" yet.
If you think your gun rights can not be taken away then you need a history lesson. Just look at what happened to Australians in 1996.

thats all well and good,,,
but you should remember that you are still in america,,,
this is 100% correct, he does not care about banning guns, it will not ever happen, ever.
If they were ever to try we would have another revolution and they damn well know it, and i would be one of the ones fighting for my right to own a gun.
I also own guns and i have a conceal and carry permit.
You guys need to be more worried about the partiot act, that is infringing on your rights way more than any anti gun lobby, and lobbying has been banned...to a point any way.
You guys worry about gun control but dont care that the government can seize your bank account and throw you in jail with no just cause if they think that you are a terrorist are even talking to a terrorist, and they can hold you for as long as they want, with no reason, no proof, nothing.
That does not bother you but somebody at the water cooler saying maybe they might ban guns you have to buy all the ammo and build a under ground shelter?
Every oversea's phone call you make is recorded and listened to, every oversea's e-mail, every over sea's sykpe, any thing that is deamed "suspicous" is monitered, you, a american citizen is being monitered, just like the kgb did in the soviet union, but that does not bother you?
You are crazy. Drink the koolaid already.

i have purchased 2 handguns recently,,, not out of some crazy right wing paranoia, but because i was in the market.
i bought a S&W #642 .38 snub and a kimber 1911 .45.
i bought both guns the same day and my background check took all of about 24 hours.
im fairly sure gun control over us NON criminal types is NOT the biggest worry in DC.
Definitely a right wing slant, but the numbers are accurate and interesting
A little gun history...
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated
------------------------------ !
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated' people, unable to defend them selves, were rounded up and exterminated.
-----------------------------
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
------------------------------
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:
List of 7 items:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such! monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.
You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.
With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.
During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED!
I shall step down from my soap box now.

Interesting discussion. So much so that I had to go back to the first post to find out the original questions....
~~"Can anybody tell me why amo is in short supply?"
I don't think it is unless your gun isn't one of the common types. for example, a 10mm is a bit harder to find but a 9mm is easy to be found.
~~"Can you normally buy amo and bring it in?"
Yes
~~"Are you experiencing the same problems?"
No
A lot of this depends on what state you live in. NY you can't even buy a handgun without a permit which involves an FBI background check, fingerprinting, etc. But go to Vermont and you can carry concealed without a permit. There's a website where you can bid on guns, like ebay, and you will find that just about everyone on there says "No sales to California" because of the complexity of their laws. So the "shortage" of ammo could be state related or market driven. If you're going to be driving out of state. there's a book called the traveler's guide to gun laws which covers all 50 states.
Now as for guns, I prefer the Kahr PM40, but I'm still looking for a deal on a .50 Desert Eagle (not cheap!).

I've been meaning to ask ya - I've just finished customizing some windshield mounts and installed a pair of Pro Comp 5" spotlights in the gap between the A pillar and mirrors. I've held off installing lights on the brush guard because I haven't seen any that I didn't think were either too small or too big. Yours look to be both the Perfect size and style. Can I ask what brand and size they are? Thanx!!
