Default Source for new keys / remotes?

Does anyone have one other than the dealer? What does the dealer charge for a new remote key? I only have one remote key which scares me. My local hardware shop tried to cut a basic key for me, but they tried twice and couldn't get one to work (for the door only obviously, I know they couldn't make an ignition.)
So are there any sources you guys have used to get a cheaper copy?
Thanks!

I have had several key blanks cut at a local lock and keysmith (who also sells bicycles for some reason) and they all have worked fine. I would either try a professional locksmith who can make keys, or a different hardware store. There is no microchip in our keys to sync with the ignition cylinder, so a properly cut standard key will still start it.

I now have four key fobs with cut keys for my D2. Only one of those fobs actually has the remote circuit board in it as I have transferred the circuit board to a new blank fob when the old fobs wore out or broke in some way. They no longer work as remote access, but I can manually unlock the doors and start the vehicle with them.
