Going to tackle the plugs and wires on my 03, but have read some conflicting size and tool recommendations. Is the plug socket a 13/16 or 5/8? And what extensions and joints do you recommend to reach the tough ones?

 

You have the smaller diameter plugs and as far as the extension goes, that is up to you.
Hows wires and plugs will you be installing?

 

8mm Magnecors and plus4's.

I dont have much in the way of ujoints, extensions or t-handles, so thought Id inquire. I have to run out for the 5/8 plug socket and some wire separators anyway.

6" extension makes it quicker/easier but not a must u-js not needed. my 8mm mag.s fit into factory seperators

 

Well, I cant even get the easy boots off, let alone the tough ones to reach. Think Ill have to engage a real mechanic.

The wires looked burned on the engine sides, so it will be good to get them swapped.

 

What kind of resistance are you experiencing? Will the boot twist at all, or is it completely stuck on the plug and will not turn or move any direction? I just did my plugs yesterday and also did the plus4's and the difference is huge for me. All of the odd cylinders were misfiring and the truck sounded like death. Much better now. Also, check for the rebate on the plugs. I bought mine on Amazon and got them with a $4 rebate each, so it only ended up being 21 bucks.

I still need to do the wires. But I did do the upstream O2 sensors. Downstream are in the mail and will be here tomorrow. The biggest help for me was this forum, but the next biggest help was a ton of wobble-extensions. Once I had placed the socket on the plug, I could stand comfortably and pull it right out. Same thing putting it back in except for initially threading the plug by hand. Extensions made my life much easier yesterday. While you can get extensions that turn 90 degrees (and I used one yesterday), try to hit the plug at the most straight on angle possible. And of course, use anti-seize on your threads and a dielectric grease on the boot. And the torque spec was 20N/m or 18 ft/lbs, I believe on the plugs.
