speaker replacement

if you want more bass in your truck you will need to go with larger speakers. the only way to get decent bass out of a 4" speaker is with a properly tuned transmission line enclosure (these are the smaller sub enclosures like Bose and alot of computer audio systems use) you need to move more air to get deeper and louder bass. The reason our trucks use these little 4" speakers is because they are designed to accompany a sub woofer, now if you want a little more bass I would increase the sub (either more power or a bigger driver or both) if you would like a little more mid-bass then I would upgrade your 4" speaker up to a 6.5" speaker, of course this would require modification and depending on your skill level probably more money. Now if you are willing to do that then my suggestion would be Alpine type S as a very good entry level speaker (very good price for the sound) If I was your salesman/installer I would suggest running Type S components up front and type S coaxials out back. I would also suggest new speaker wire with a full range signal from either your stock amp (if you are using it) or the head unit (if you are not using the stock amp) to the crossovers that come with the components(this will give you the best bass response those speakers can offer). If you want better sound there are many high end speakers you can go with (Focal, JL audio, Hertz, Alpine type R or type X) of course I am sure you will be paying over $200 a pair for any of those. But then again if you came to my shop looking for more bass, I would suggest a bass package first!(sub and amp)

I would make sure they fit before you order them, looking at the specs they probably wont without modification on the door, you will most likely not be able to put the factory cover over them due to the raised surround. so that is a few things to consider, also how do they perform in a free air situation. they do look pretty nice and the price looks good, low wattage and good impedance, I would probably give it a shot if I wanted to keep my subs in the factory location. you can also try spacers on the speaker grill if you want to protect them a little.
whatever you go with, good luck and let us all know how it turns out.

I dont think depth would be too big an issue, the reason I say that is because if I remember correctly the amp is mounted across the magnets of the 2 subs, without the amp you should have at least another 2 or 3 inches of depth, I am sure it would be easy enough to find a solution to where to mount the amp.
