Default sporadic lifter noise?

hey guys my 03 disco II is making a very slight ticking sound very sporadically. i only happens every now and then but the noise is coming from the top end and to me sounds like lifter noise. its not that loud at all and like i said dosent happen too often. what gets me is that its really only on startup and idle. it dosent increase with rpms either. when i heard it today i reved the engine a little and it stopped. anyone have any ideas. thanks in advance.

Check your oil pressure at a hot idle.

i will check the pressure tomorrow. in my first post i said that the noise stopped when i revved it up a bit but i meant that it stopped while i revved it and it started at idle again. then it just stops on its own and i may not hear it again until later that day or the next time i drive it. it doesnt happen all the time and i cant guess when it will

I would start with oil pressure and then go from there.
8psi at idle is the lowest allowed by LR.
While your at it check it at 2000 rpm too.

just got my oil pressure guage and will be picking up the misc. fittings and such in the morning. will let you all know what the numbers are when i finish. on a side note my ses light came on today and i got it scanned and got two codes back. i got p0327 and p1174. i cleared them and they have not come back yet. it happened on the highway when i accelerated pretty good to pass. i found the codes in the rave manual but not to sure what they mean considering they have not come back. any ideas? the truck does have a very subtle studder at idle. nomissing when i accelerate that i can tell. thanks

How often do you change your oil, what oil by brand and weight?
As Spike said, check your oil pressure, if OK, consider doing an engine flush to clean out a lot of old build up, if that doesn't work the pull the rocker shaft and push rods looking for wear.

Mike,

What weight oil do you reccommend? I am about tot do an oil change, which flush products are effective without risk of damage?

Thanks
