sporadic lifter noise?
Yes I do, I don't know who's bimmer that is, but they should skip every other engine detail and change the oil.
LOL sort of

I had lifter noise that seemed to appear after an overheating problem. It persisted after the overheating problem went away for six months or so. The overheating reappeared, and at the same time the noise stopped! Nightmare of overheating problem, but all seems to be OK now 10k later. Overheating must have loosened gunk. Not to say you want it overheating...
Incidentally, without the money right now to try any more solutions to my overheating dilemna (replaced thermostat, bled over and over, flushed, etc...), I finally drilled a couple 1/8" holes through the metal inside the thermostat so it can never close off circulation completely. I know this is against recommendations, but the thing runs fine even if a bit slower to heat up. Runs in the normal range and never goes high now. My overheating problem had usually appeared during cooler weather.

Based on the first YouTube vid, I have the exact same knock in my '03. My knock started a little over a year ago immediately after doing an engine flush (I didn't read spikes post links earlier in this thread, but I bet I'm one of them.). Originaly, my noise would only surface when the engine was hot. But now, one year and about 12k miles layer, it's there all the time. I also installed an oil pressure guage and have good pressure. I tried all the oil and cleaner recommendations mentioned above to no avail. I found a good deal on an '04 engine and snatched it up. I'm going to drive the current engine until the knock drives me crazy (it's getting close) or the engine fails.
I hope your problem is more easily fixed, but it sounds an awful lot like mine. Like spike, I'll avoid engine flushes in the future and just let synthetic oil do its job. I don't know definitively that the flush caused my problem, but I won't chance it again.

i put in rotella 15w40 with a bottle of cd2 engine detergent and its been off and on some days it tick som it dosent. its been three days in a row now with no ticking. fingers crossed
If your engine's a sludge container,(mine was), you need to drop the pan (2hrs.), and clean it out.
The detergent additive is a good mild cleaner that may help flush some of it, but there's nothing better than frequent oil changes.
You might try searching online for "reasons for sludge in aluminum engines".
I suspect you'll find good reading.

i definately understand what your saying greg. i have only owned the truck a couple months and am trying to iron it out. done two oil changes in 2000 miles, plugs, wires, rebuilt driveshaft and valve cover gaskets. have a third oil changre coming up with a complete oil pan and pickup tube cleaning. im not saying the noise is gone just hoping it is. lol
