Default squeaking landy

i drive a 2001 disco series II...a week ago it started to squeak when in operation. when i start the car, it's fine, it is quiet. however, after 10 minutes the squeaking comes up again.

i feel like it is the emergency brake that is engaged (it's not attached to the emergency brake lever, don't know how the wire disengaged...but it will soon be fixed when funds are higher). either way, once i am done using the car, it smells like metal...grinding metal. am i wrong to assume it is the e-brake? whenever i am idle/veering after stopping, car goes nowhere. thus reinforcing my e-brake problem.

help.

So when you first start it in the morning it is fine.
Then once you start to drive it it starts to squek?
And then once you stop it wont move unless you give it lots of gas?
Is that right?
Any warning lights on on the dash?

uh, yeah. from the sounds of it, your parking brake is locked. It is actually attached to your rear driveshaft, and if you are driving with it engaged, you are chewing up money. Stp by a brake shop and get an inspection. Most will do it for free, and if it is hanging, they may just fix it quick... Don't drive it until you can get it in. Might be the difference between $40 for new pads, or $300 for the assembly.

To spike:
yes, i will start my car, drive it for 10 minutes and the squeaking starts. don't ask me about my warning light - it is always on and i know what it's for: a fuel emissions problem.

my emergency brake has been disengaged for a while now, i don't know how it would just lock if it's not even connected to the parking break lever for now.

so to okdiscoguy: the smell of the grinding metal are the e-brake pads grinding against my rear driveshaft?

thanks

or any one of your calipers frozen. This is a serious problem and you need to have it looked at by a mechanic.... I just went to the parking brake because you already have a problem with it.

What warning light are you talking about? Which ones are on?

I will say again just to stress the importance. This needs to be looked at and not driven.

I agree with OKDguy, take it in TODAY!
If you keep driving it you will just make things worse and cost you even more money.
As for the service engine light, get it read again, a new code may have popped up.

There was a lady on here awhile ago who drove for over a year with the service engine light on, cost her over $2000 when she finally got around to getting it looked at.
