Question SRS light question.

First, I will preference this by saying, I have pulled, cleaned and reseated the yellow plugs under each seat to get the SRS light to turn off. Now, the SRS light is off and stays off.....until someone sits in passenger seat, then the light comes on. This is prior to even touching the passenger seat belt. Is there a weight sensor in the seat that turns the Passenger air bags on and off, somewhere that could be malfunctioning? Can I replace that sensor or does the entire seat need replacing? I hate idiot lights, but I hate hiding iluuminated idiot lights even more, so pulling the bulb, fuse or black taping it is NOT AN OPTION!!! HELP.

I can find nothing in the RAVE saying that there are weight sensors in the seats. Perhaps the act of sitting in the seat triggers a short in the passenger pretensioner connector.

Odd Watching this one because my SRS light goes out when someone sits in that seat.

As previously reply no weight sensor involved. Fortunately warning system is simple. Does appear you likely have it isolated to a fault in circuit from RH pre-tensioner to DCU. When seat occupied it may be shifting the harness to cause an intermittent open giving the fault. Could be broken strands causing open circuit within insulated section or at the back of the yellow connector which would be a good first place to look. Other possibility may be connector on DCU may need to be cleaned. Good luck chasing it down.
The airbag DCU can supply a low voltage test current to the airbags and pre-tensioners to
check circuit continuity.

It would be useful to get the ABS codes read. I appears you have isolated the problem to the front passenger seat pretensioner, but getting the codes read would confirm that.

The system is simple if it doesn't see about 2.5 ohms resistance in each of the 4 squib (airbags and pretensioners are "squibs") circuits the light comes on. Once it sees 2.5 ohms the light goes off, so it's not a hard fault, in fact even while the ignition is on the light will go on and off depending on whether the srs ecu sees the 2.5 ohms in each circuit. The weak link as I found it is in the yellow connector plugs which plug into the pretentinoer units, if u take the cover off those plugs u will find a simple scotch lock type wire connection which is prone to loosing contact. Just to be clear i am not referring to the yellow male female plugs under the seats, but rather the yellow plug which goes into the pretensioner units themselves, after the yellow make female connection under the seats.
