Guys, thanks a ton for all your help! I don't know what I would do without this site!!!! To update, had to use a 20 ton press to get axle off of shaft!! Took wire wheel and cleaned everything up, greased all parts, used bolts to seat it back, put everything back together and guess what? NO 3 AMIGOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks AGAIN!!

"IF" the 3 amigos come back, don't get frustrated and look into option B. My amigos came back after replacing the rear hubs and once I did option B, they never bothered me again.

I replaced the shuttle valve switch last year and that cured for awhile. I think this wheel bearing was part of it also. After getting the hub off and rotating it by hand, it is a wonder that the speed sensor wasn't whistling Dixie full time!!! Says a lot about a Landrover to me, if it had been a Ford or Chevy the axle would have burnt in half!!

TIP: Leave the D2 on the floor with all of the wheels torqued on and the wheel centres removed and the front + rear wheels well chocked with a 4" wooden blocks. Put autobox in neutral and release the handbrake. To remove a hub shaft nut is difficult as you guys well know, my method works every time. Use a 6 sided short impact socket on a good quality 3/4" T bar with a 4' extension tube, then use a 2 to 3 ton trolley jack under the end of the extension tube but parallel to the D2 and slowly jack up the extension tube ensuring the socket is always well placed on the hub nut from time to time, ensure you protect the D2 bodywork with a sheet of plywood or similar in case of any mishaps.

This is the simple math. 350lb/ft = 350lb @ 1 ft therefore 350/4 = 87.5lbs = wife's body weight or less. Nut seizure due to heat and time so double the pressure needed, = 175lbs = average man's body weight. So no real issues. Spray the nut 24 hours earlier with penetrating fluid spray (PB Blaster) and prepare all of the equipment needed. It all works like child's play It takes 1 - 1.5 hours to undo the 4# hub nuts.

Yep I always leave the P38/D2 on the ground remove the center cap (of the hub or hubs I'm going to remove) then use a breaker bar to break it loose. I also normally replace the nuts unless I'm in a pinch.

I learned that one the hard way!! After putting tire back on and lowered, nut broke loose without too much effort. When I had it up on the jack stand, I about rolled the whole thing off the stand. It was simple economics to do it myself but it was also a very learning experience!! Thanks for the help!!!
