Default Stake Nut Removal Help

I have the 32MM driver for the stake nut, but cant get anything to bend that tab to take the nut off.

Any suggestions for a tool to do this with? Do you just get a screwdriver in there and whack it?

i am trying to take the hub off

thanks

Use one as close to the width of the slot in the drive shaft and do exactly as you said

once you get it pretty flat some good old muscle on the wrench (and a breaker bar) will do the rest, at least mine did.

Use a punch, stick it in the hole and whack it with a mallet. The secret though is to use a big enough wrench/breaker bar (at least 32") or an impact wrench.

Was able to break the nut...thanks guys.

Next question...do i try to reuse this thing? If so, then I guess I need to tighten to the same spot and whack that tab back in again.

thoughts?

thanks
matt

I reused mine because it was never really staked on in the first place, just a little bent in. If it was actually staked well before you should really replace it though:

NEVER re-use a stakenut, it needs to be replaced. It is HIGHLY unlikely you will get it lined up again at the same spot when its re-torqued anway even if you could re-use it.

Maybe I got lucky because mine lined right back up without trying. Like I said though none of mine axle nuts were really staked, I did not even bother to unstake it before taking it off. Maybe the guy responsible for staking was sick that day. During my last brake job though I restaked them all.
