Default Starting a junk car - p1668

Hello,

I just purchased an engine donor disco. The previous owner had it sitting for half a year and no the BCU is throwing p1668. I know what the code means and what the problem is, but I don't have a nanocom and most definitely I'm not going to the dealer to get it reset. What are my options? Can I temporarily swap the BCU and ECU from my daily disco (both are the same year)? If I do that, am I risking messing up the BCU from my running vehicle - I only have a key (no fob) and it would really suck if something got reset.

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks!

ECU, BCU, and IC are all sync'ed. If you swap, and move the car, the ODO will start flashing due to mismatch between mileage on IC and BCU. If you swap in IC everything will match and work fine. You will need to turn key on for 15 min after swap to allow the interior fusebox to sync with the BCU.

Yes, if you swap all 3 -- Instrument cluster, BCU, and ECU -- it should work. Don’t lock the car in which you’re swapping in the parts, please. And don’t mess with keyless entry. Just use the key.

And no, to answer your question, it won’t mess up the parts or your mileage, when you swap them back into your daily disco.

What Extinct said above is important about letting it sit while the interior IDM / fusebox re-syncs with BCU.

Also --if the donor disco is a facelift (03/04) and your daily driver is a 99-02, or vice-versa, you might not get this to work.
