Default Starting problem

I have a 2002 Discovery 2 that I'm having a starting problem. When I turn the key the 1st time the engine will turn over about i/2 a crank. I wait about 5-10 sec and try again and it will turn about 1 1/2 times, wait about an other 5-10 sec. and it will start. The battery is about 6-7 months old is holding a charge.

Any ideas?

So go to your local parts store and have both the charging system and the starter tested. Voltage should be between 13.6 and 14.4 volts.

Can I have the starter checked without removing it? I've taken one out and had it checked but not in the vehicle.

Some parts stores can test the drain of the starter when doing a batetry and cranking test. My starter draws almost 300 amps when starting. I used a clamp on meter to test it. You may have a bad solenoid on the starter.
